pagpm
The Education City Project (ECP) is the cornerstone venture of DHI for the development of Bhutan’s Knowledge Hub. The objective of the project is to create a global destination for scholarships, innovation and collaboration. A 1000 acre site, equidistant from the capital and the international airport has already been identified. The ECP will be 100% green and carbon neutral with sustainable architecture through the use of renewable energy, bio-mimetic principles and LEED certified designs. The strength of the ECP will be drawn from the unique culture, history, geography and the accommodating regulatory environment of Bhutan. The ECP is guided by Project Advisory Group (PAG), consisting of eminent members from Bhutan, India, Singapore and Australia.

Current Status:
The National Assembly passed the Bhutan Education City Bill on January 16, 2012 at its 8th session and presented it to the National Council. The National Council introduced (14th June 2012), deliberated (18th June 2012), and passed (22nd June 2012) the Bill at the 9th session. The National Assembly deliberated and passed the Bill on 28th June, 2012. The Act will now be submitted to His Majesty the King for Royal Assent. While most of the original provisions of the Bill were retained, few significant deletions and changes have been made on the Bill.

Amochu Township Project

Amochhu site
The Amochu (Toorsa) broadens to over 1 km as it exits Bhutan at Phuentsholing. The river has been eroding considerable land and it poses a threat to the development of the already congested township, which is also geographically and commercially strategic. Flood mitigation and land reclamation measures can overcome these problems. According to a detailed study report submitted by consultants of the Dansih Hydraulic Institute in November 2007 a recovery of 865 Acres of land is feasible. The project would take three years and the recovered land could be utilised for residential, commercial or industrial purposes. An environmental impact analysis was also carried out and it was seen that none of the impacts are seriously adverse and all the impacts could be mitigated with a little effort.
