Alternative Building Materials
To reduce dependence on timber for construction, DHI is seeking partners to manufacture alternative building materials in Bhutan.
Education City
The Royal Government has the vision of establishing an Education City in Bhutan that provides world-class education targeting mostly regional expatriate students. The city is expected to be a 100% green campus with world class facilities using sustainable technologies. About 1000 acres of land in addition to other incentives is to be provided by the Royal Government.
ICT
Based on the availability of surplus clean and green electricity at the lowest rates in the region, Bhutan is seeking to develop ICT and data centre related businesses.
Organic Farming
As a nation renowned for environmental conservation, Bhutan seeks to focus on organic farming. This will be promoted through the creation of ‘Brand Bhutan’. The brand is intended to uphold Bhutan’s emphasis on keeping the nation green and pristine.
Renewable Energy
Clean energy has always been an integral component of the government’s development policy. Presently, Bhutan has made good progress from harnessing energy from run-of-the-river hydro power and sees potential also from alternative energy like solar, bio-mass and wind.
Special Economic Zones
With its close proximity to the vast Indian market, Bhutan seeks to develop Special Economic Zones to set up ser vice, agro-based, ICT and manufacturing industries. Several incentives have been identified for the SEZs which will be located in Gelephu over a 1,000 acres of land; In Samtse over 500 acres and in Samdrup Jongkhar with over 150 acres. The following are the three Special Economic Zones identified to be developed through Public Private Partnership (PPP) model: Â
• Dhamdum under Samtse Dzongkhag
• Jigmeling under Sarpang Dzongkhag
• Motanga under Samdrup Jongkhar Dzongkhag
Wellness Resort
A Wellness Resort is a high-end residential facility that provides holistic wellness programs for enhancing individuals’ health and state of well-being. The Wellness Resort that DHI envisions is an exclusive establishment that will provide Bhutanese wellness treatments as a unique differentiator in addition to other well-established international wellness treatments. The approach is to be based on the Sowa Rigpa (Traditional Bhutanese Medicine) and other authentic and well established natural healing practices in Bhutan.
