The Innovation Ecosystem: Values-Aligned Pathway for Bhutan’s Innovation Landscape

Bhutan is shaping a new kind of innovation ecosystem, rooted in national values and and connected to global talent, capital, and ideas. This ecosystem is anchored by the Multichannel Innovation Fund (MCIF), a pioneering framework designed to mobilize philanthropic, infrastructure, and venture capital to drive Bhutan’s long-term strategic transformation. The MCIF creates a unified, ethical, and transparent pathway for ideas, talent, and capital to flow into Bhutan in alignment with national priorities.

As part of this vision, DHI signed an MoU with TheFutureCo (TFC) in August 2025, activating global partnerships that bring world-class expertise, regenerative development models, and investment networks into Bhutan. A central outcome of this collaboration is the establishment of The Dharma Fund (TDF), the MCIF’s global-facing investment channel for Health, Wealth and Consciousness, sponsored by TFC during its founding stage. TDF connects:

1.    DHI’s national innovation platform

2.    TFC’s hubs in Manila and San Francisco, and

3.    a growing community of values-aligned global partners.

Through its three coordinated tracks, Philanthropy, Infrastructure, and Venture, TDF enables Bhutan to nurture early-stage ideas, build modern economic infrastructure, and scale transformative ventures, particularly in emerging sectors such as Health, Wellness & Consciousness (HWC), frontier technologies, and regenerative systems.

In November 2025, this collaboration took a significant step forward when a 27-member international investor delegation visited Bhutan through TDF. The visit sought to translate the MCIF vision into operational reality with a focus on governance, global talent sourcing, venture-selection frameworks, ethical AI, regenerative infrastructure, and wellness-based markets. Delegates engaged with DHI leadership and Bhutanese innovators, deepening their understanding of Bhutan’s 10X Strategy, national innovation agenda, and the unique integration of GNH values with technology-driven solutions.

The dialogues and working sessions generated strong interest in pilot projects, early demonstration hubs, and long-term collaboration—especially within the Health, Wellness and Consciousness (HWC) sector. Both DHI and TDF emphasized the importance of trust-building, cultural alignment, and shared purpose as the foundation for future work.

As Bhutan advances its innovation ecosystem, the synergy between the MCIF and The Dharma Fund marks a pivotal move toward establishing the country as a sovereign-led, values-driven model of global innovation, where technology and investment serve well-being, consciousness, and planetary resilience.
